William Butler Yeats is one of the most important poets of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In 1923, he was the first Irishman to win the Nobel Prize in literature.
As well as writing great poetry, Yeats led the Irish Literary Revival, which explored the history and mythology of Ireland. Along with Lady Gregory and Edward Martyn, Yeats created a drama society that, for the first time, used Irish talent to write, act and produce works for the stage, taking over the now famous Abbey Theatre in Dublin.
W.B. Yeats is not only an Irish literary hero and an internationally famous poet, he is also a truly fascinating character.
